Group Meetings!!

  Some great input

Today we met up with groups in class to discuss what out ideas for our portfolio project are. I met with Ava, Mia, Evan, Mariana, and Grace and we actually had some great discussions. Ava and Mia are doing music videos; Mariana, Evan, and I are doing short films, and Grace is doing a documentary. Ava is doing a very specific music video, with the song being about the struggles the artist has gone through. She was a little lost on what shots she actually wanted to incorporate since the theme is so personal to the artist, and I made some suggestions that she liked. I was able to relate to Grace a lot, because both of our projects revolve around the topic of grief. Her documentary is about how the loss of a loved one affects a person, and getting out of the cycle of grief. Her episode she will be producing will focus on the loss of a spouse, and my piece revolves around the loss of a child/sibling, and getting out of endless grief together. So we were able to talk about how we're portraying a person's grief. Here was the gang!

I got some very good ideas for my own project. I was talking to my group about how I was conflicted due to my problems with casting a mother for my film, as I already have someone in mind for the main character. I need someone who looks a bit older than the main character, and preferably who can act decently well. Ava brought up the idea that I don't show the mothers face at all. And while I don't think that's a good idea for the whole film; however covering at least half of the mother's face for the majority of the film, until the heartfelt scene where the mother reveals she is the one who wrote the notes. By covering the mom's face until the two make up, it represents how realizing how hurt the child has been this whole time has opened the mothers eyes. I think this is a great idea that makes the visual element of the film far more meaningful.

So one big problem I have with my production schedule is that I can't start filming until next week. Haha... on this Thursday, March 7th, I am leaving for a state French competition which will last until Saturday March 9th. See, I've really been slacking a little bit with my short film because I am competing in two categories, head of a category, and president of the club, so my entire focus has been on getting my group ready for this competition. After this week though, this short film will definitely be the only thing I think about until I finish it and am proud of what I produce.

But anyways, I brought this up with my group, and discussed how I was worried about the social media component of my project. I didn't know how to start posting if I didn't have content yet. However, Grace gave me a great idea to start my social media off. She mentioned how there is a website called DEADLINE that posts casting announcements for upcoming films, and how many social media pages repost these at the beginning of their account to draw people in. I could make the first two posts of my social media as simple two casting announcements.

Here's an example of that these articles look like:
